Anorexia Nervosa “Re-Feeding” Syndrome – USMLE Step 2CK exam

This is a serious complication that occurs 2-3 weeks after treatment is began for an anorexic patient.

Anorexic re-feeding syndrome presents with severe hypophosphatemia, and patient will have signs of heart failure, JVD, peipheral edema, progressive delirium and subsequently cardiac arrest.

Management is hospitalization with IV phosphate replacement.
